Delta4x4 Wheels & Accessories: Fender Flares & More

If you're looking for high-quality accessories in the off-road sector, Delta4x4 is a name you can't ignore. The German company specializes in customizing and outfitting SUVs and pickups – from robust rims and fender flares to suspension components. In this guide, we'll introduce the product range, explain which vehicles the products fit, and provide tips on installation and registration.

1. Delta4x4: Who's behind it?

Delta4x4 is a German company based in Southern Germany that has specialized in off-road accessories and vehicle customization for many years. The product portfolio includes rims, fender flares, fender lips, lift kits, front bars, and other off-road equipment. The focus is on quality, precision fit, and registrability for German road traffic – a decisive advantage over many imported products.

Delta4x4 develops and tests its products in Germany, which means that most parts come with part certificates (Teilegutachten) or ABE (general operating permit). This significantly simplifies approval and provides security when purchasing.

2. Rim Assortment at a Glance

The Delta4x4 rims are specifically designed for off-road use. They are characterized by robust construction, high load capacities, and a striking design that emphasizes the vehicle's off-road character.

Design Philosophy

Delta4x4 focuses on classic off-road aesthetics: wide spokes, deep rim beds, and strong contours. The rims are deliberately designed for functionality – no delicate multi-spoke designs, but robust constructions that can withstand tough off-road use. Typical colors are matte black, anthracite, and bronze.

For Which Vehicles?

Delta4x4's rim assortment covers the most popular off-road vehicles and pickups:

  • Toyota Hilux: One of the main focuses of the Delta4x4 range. Suitable for all current generations with a 6x139.7 bolt pattern. You can find more about the Hilux in our Toyota Hilux Rim Guide.
  • Ford Ranger: Rims for the popular pickup, adapted to the different generations and their bolt patterns.
  • Dodge RAM: Wide rims with a low offset for the American full-size pickup.
  • Isuzu D-Max: Compatible thanks to the identical 6x139.7 bolt pattern as the Hilux.
  • VW Amarok: Suitable models for the classic German pickup.

All off-road rims in our shop are marked with the respective vehicle approvals.

3. Fender Flares: Which ones for which vehicle?

Fender flares are one of Delta4x4's core products. They fulfill two functions: Visually, they give the vehicle a more aggressive, wider appearance. Functionally, they allow for the mounting of wider tires and rims with a lower offset without the tire protruding beyond the fender edge – which is not permitted in Germany without a cover.

Ford Ranger

Delta4x4 offers fender flares for the Ford Ranger in various widths. The flares are vehicle-specific in shape and fit precisely to the body contours of the Ranger. Depending on the model and extension level, flares from 40 to 80 mm per side are available.

Toyota Hilux

For the Hilux, there are suitable flares that further enhance the distinctive look of the pickup. Especially in combination with wide Delta4x4 rims and off-road tires, a harmonious overall picture is created.

Dodge RAM

The RAM 1500 particularly benefits from fender flares, as many owners want to mount wider rims with an aggressive offset. Delta4x4 offers flares here that further enhance the massive appearance of the American pickup.

Material and Workmanship

Delta4x4 fender flares are usually made of robust ABS plastic or glass-fiber reinforced plastic (GRP). Both materials are UV-resistant, impact-resistant, and can be painted if necessary. The surface is often slightly textured (crinkle paint look), which creates a factory-like appearance and conceals small scratches.

4. Fender Lips: What they are and when you need them

Fender lips are the more subtle alternative to full fender flares. They are mounted on the upper edge of the wheel arch and increase the tire's coverage by a few centimeters. This is often sufficient to cover a rim-tire combination with a slightly lower offset.

When is a lip sufficient?

  • The tire protrudes only a few millimeters (up to approx. 15 mm) beyond the fender edge.
  • The vehicle should remain as close as possible to the series design.
  • Installation should be quick and easy – most lips are clamped or screwed without modifying the body.

When do you need a flare?

  • Wider rims (e.g., 9 inches and more) with a significantly lower offset.
  • The tire protrudes 20 mm or more beyond the fender edge.
  • A deliberately aggressive off-road look is desired.

5. Installation Tips & Registration

Installation of Fender Flares

Delta4x4 fender flares are typically designed as bolt-on solutions. This means that the flares are mounted with screws or clips at existing attachment points, without the need to drill into the bodywork. Installation can therefore also be carried out by experienced DIY mechanics.

General Assembly Instructions

  • Preparation: Thoroughly clean the mounting area. Check paintwork and bodywork for damage.
  • Test fit: Hold the flare dry before final screwing and check its position.
  • Seal: Use a seal or body sealant tape between the flare and the body to keep out moisture and dirt.
  • Screws: Use all supplied screws and tighten them to the specified torque.

Registration

Fender flares change the vehicle width and must therefore be registered. Delta4x4 usually supplies a parts certificate (Teilegutachten), which allows registration at an officially recognized testing center. The inspector checks the correct assembly, the clearance of the wheels, and the lighting (indicators, taillights must not be obstructed). After successful inspection, the change is noted in the vehicle registration document.

Tip: Ideally, mount the rims, tires, and fender flares together and register them in one appointment. This saves effort and avoids multiple presentations.

For which vehicles are Delta4x4 products available?

Delta4x4 offers products for numerous popular off-road vehicles and pickups, including Toyota Hilux, Ford Ranger, Dodge RAM, Isuzu D-Max, VW Amarok, and other models. Availability varies by product category.

Do fender flares need to be registered?

Yes, fender flares change the vehicle width and must be registered with an officially recognized technical inspection body. Delta4x4 usually provides a parts certificate (Teilegutachten), which enables registration.

What is the difference between a fender flare and a fender lip?

A fender flare covers a larger area of the wheel arch and allows for significantly wider tire-rim combinations. A fender lip is only mounted on the upper edge of the wheel arch and offers a few centimeters of additional coverage – the more subtle solution for moderate modifications.

Can I install Delta4x4 fender flares myself?

Yes, most Delta4x4 flares are designed as bolt-on solutions and can be installed with basic tools. No drilling into the bodywork is usually required. However, for subsequent registration, the vehicle must be presented to an officially recognized testing center.

Are Delta4x4 rims available with certificates?

Yes, Delta4x4 places great importance on registrability for German road traffic. Most rims come with a parts certificate (Teilegutachten) or ABE (general operating permit), which allows or eliminates the need for registration with an officially recognized testing center.
